Many people like to play cards on the computer. Three decades have passed since the Microsoft Solitaire game. Previously it was known as Windows Solitaire. The game turned 30 on May 23.

According to Microsoft, Solitaire is still one of the most played games in the world every day. Three and a half crore players are still active in the game every month. 100 million hand games are played daily.

Before Microsoft Solitaire, it was introduced in 1990 as Windows Solitaire through Windows 3.0. Designed specifically to help users learn how to use the mouse.

Until the release of Windows 7 in 2012, the game was pre-installed on every Windows operating system. However, Microsoft did not keep the game in Windows 8. That same year the game underwent a major overhaul and was released as a standalone game in the Microsoft Store. Later in 2015, the game was brought back to the Windows 10 version. The new version enhances graphics as well as support for Android, iOS, and web platforms. It adds 5 new game modes, Daily Challenge, Xbox Live connectivity.


Microsoft claims that the game is still played in more than 200 countries and territories. And it is in 75 languages. Last year the solitaire game was included in the World Video Game Hall of Fame, along with classic titles such as Doom, World of Warcraft, Tetris, and Hello, Combat Evolved.
